How’s everyone doing today? We are battling colds over here but are surviving with a lot of tissue and Dayquil. I’ve taken a break from social media (with the exception of the blog), and I am already noticing the positive effects. I’ve been able to focus more on my kids (less mindless scrolling) and have been more productive in a lot of areas including work.

Speaking of work…

Melissa and I both mentioned in our introductions (here and here) that we work part-time. I get asked a lot about what working part-time from home looks like for me. When do I work? How do I work with kids in the house? How many cups of coffee do I drink per day?

This week, Melissa and I are going to answer where we work by giving you a peek at our workspaces in our homes. The space I am going to highlight is where I complete most of my tasks for my part-time job, but it is also where I retreat to get organized, plan for the week, meal plan, blog, and work on a number of other personal things.

In our home, we do not have a dedicated space for an office. We have big dreams of perhaps one day expanding our kitchen and turning our current dining room into an office, but for now, my office/workspace is in our spare bedroom. This space works really well in this stage of life because our spare bedroom is attached to a bonus room in our home which currently serves as our playroom. This allows for me to work while simultaneously keeping an eye on the kids while they play. This isn’t always ideal. I try to work when they are napping or asleep, but if I do need to get something work-related done when they are awake, I am able to multitask.

Scott and I are also fairly minimal when it comes to decorating our home. I love my office space because it is the one area in the house where I get to decorate to my taste. I added bookshelves above my desk, and have added images and designs that I enjoy looking at. Because I share my office with a guest bedroom, a few of the framed images are geared towards our guests, including our WIFI information and a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote.

Also on my desk is this Threshold desktop organizer. I liked the wire look and how it tied in the dark browns from the rest of the room. I bought this waste basket to tie browns in as well. See those gorgeous, fresh flowers? Those are from Melissa and they have lasted almost two weeks!

So that’s where I get ‘er done. Now, I’m off to gulp down some more medicine. Where do you work at in your home? Do you have a dedicated space? How do you personalize it? We would love to hear!

Also, friends, don’t bother texting me with “Your office is never that clean. Did you pick up just to get a good picture?” Yes. The answer is yes.

    1. Hey Erin! Thank you so much for reading the blog! I got the desk at Weekends Only in Castleton. It’s a furniture store only open on the weekends (hence the name) and they can keep costs down because they don’t have as much overhead. I think we only paid like $100-120 for it! Hope you are doing well!
